5 The student will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health.
   5.1 The student will demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills in order to express needs, wants, and feelings.
      5.1.1 Advanced Indicator: The student will consistently use effective communication skills to enhance interactions and strengthen relationships.
      5.1.2 Proficient Indicator: The student will occasionally use effective communication skills to enhance interactions and strengthen relationships.
      5.1.3 Partially Proficient Indicator: The student will use limited communciation skills to enhance interactions and strengthen relationships.
   5.2 Students demonstrate communication skills to build and maintain a variety of healthy relationships.
      5.2.1 Advanced Indicator: The student will actively demonstrate at least three styles of both verbal and nonverbal communication in a role-play situation.
      5.2.2 Proficient Indicator: The student will actively demonstrate at least two styles of both verbal and nonverbal communication in a role-play situation.
      5.2.3 Partially Proficient Indicator: The student will recognize both verbal and nonverbal styles of communication.
   5.3 Students analyze and identify possible causes of conflict among youth and strategies to manage that conflict.
      5.3.1 Advanced Indicator: The student will analyze potential causes of conflict among youth and develop strategies to manage those conflicts.
      5.3.2 Proficient Indicator: The student will identify possible causes of conflict among youth and develop one strategy for managing that conflict.
      5.3.3 Partially Proficient Indicator: The student will show a limited comprehension of causes of conflict among youth.
   5.4 The student will demonstrate refusal and negotiation skills to enhance health.
      5.4.1 Advanced Indicator: The student will consistently demonstrate effective refusal skills.
      5.4.2 Proficient Indicator: The student will occasionally use effective refusal skills.
      5.4.3 Partially Proficient Indicator: The student will use ineffective refusal skills.
